It looks like WRING demolitions work is
almost complete, so presumably we can
expect Laing O'Rourke to make
an appearance in
the not to distant future.
I believe that fully fledged construction
is due to commence in February

I took this photo from the top of the mound that used to be the
rubbish tip off Ferry Road. The actual glass needle site is now
completely empty, not a portacabin or sledge hammer remain! I
would imagine that early in the new year the site will be re-occupied
and should then be a hive of activity for the next 18months(ish)
but for now all is calm, and from afar it's great to visualize
the impact the long awaited glass needle will have on this city
centre location.

5-05-2006:
Just
a quick news flash to say... NO BL**DY news!
I wander past the site on a daily basis so rest assured the instant
anything actually happens, I'll keep you posted here!

GUESS WHAT!!! No News! however July is fast
approaching and apparently that's when we will see
the start!! (seeing is believing mind you!) In
the meantime, as a matter of interest this web
page has attracted 1,400 visitors! so I guess
I'm not the only one who is looking forward to
seeing this prestigious development get off
the ground - if you would like to make a comment
then please do so here
(sorry about the ads! but
when I start making a coupla quid from my
CardiffWalesMap
venture I'll get rid of them)
Anyway please have your say, and Roll on July!!
05-07-2006
At last July is here! Cardiff has so many
building projects about to start it's pretty incredible! ( click
on developments on CardiffWalesMap
) Still the Glass Needle
is the one that I am so keen to see proceeding. On a forum that
I keep an eye on it has been said (by somebody 'in the know')
that we will see activity this month or early next month (don't
you just know that means it'll be next month!) still the 'in the
know' Gent assures that it WILL happen!! In the great scheme of
tall'ish' buildings the Glass Needle is no big deal, however for
Cardiff I believe this building will be the start of a new era
for the city - Cardiff is crying out for an iconic structure to
shout it from the roof tops that this is a modern, optimistic
and forward thinking city - Cardiff as a city is accelerating!
and the Glass Needle will show visitors that we mean business,
St Davids 2 and the International Sports Village will confirm
that fact.

It's October! maybe just maybe something will happen this month?
as a matter of interest this page has attracted 2,000+ hits to
date so I guess I'm not the only one eager to see this development
up and running!! if
you've got a comment to make then please do so HERE

So I guess October wasn't the month that this LONG awaited development
got underway. The lack of news on this project is summed up by
the fact that a google search sends you to this page!!! If you
have arrived via google then I do apologise that alas I am clueless
as to when and indeed IF this development will happen! Still I
live in hope - I just hope I LIVE LONG ENOUGH to see it!!!
11-12-2006
I seem to remember just before Christmas
last year, thinking that this development has taken a month of
sundays to get underway, but that it would be full speed ahead
in 2006. Today I commisserate the anniversary of that thought!
Surely 2007 will either see it proceed or be ditched - what a
shame that would be. Tell you what just for a change we'll have
to wait and see!!
27-12-2006
Nice to hear that this project is still alive and kicking and
talk of a April/May 2007 start is very encouraging. The delay
has been caused by the discovery of a fibre optic cable that nobody
seemed to know about?? story here
10-04-2007
A JCB and a portacabin turned up today!!
at last something is happening - we don't know
exactly what yet but I'm sure something will be
be reported soon - and if we are to get this
awaited development, then this website will
keep you updated with photos on a daily basis
(sad but true) still let's see what happens
over the next month or so. But at least it
looks like something will be happening - AT LAST
14-06-2007
It would appear that at this moment in time this
project has been abandoned!
