I chose to get off at queen st the other day from cogan purely to check it out, as the train was bound for aberdare it stopped at the new platform. The train wasn't very busy, so I found getting off on the new platform and out through the new building quite an improvement to the station (but certainly nothing to enthuse about). However I hasten to add it wasn't busy.
But if this is the platform that all travelling up the ponty line and beyond are having to use!! they're taking the p**s! Some travellers have been using this station for years and now find station facilities downgraded! No these aren't temporary shelters this is how much we value your custom!! wow I'm shocked  utter disgrace

I wouldn't mind it if it didn't look like a design that's been sat on an architects desk since 1990.

I know we all have a low opinion of this development anyway but there's been yet another screw-up. People who've seen it will have noticed that the station name across the frontage is in English only. That was probably a silly and insensitive move by NR but, whatever, I'm not too bothered either way.

However as of last Autumn NR became a government agency and as such is covered by language legislation. Since that signage went up after the change - it will probably have to come down again. The Wales Office has already written to NR demanding an explanation and no doubt others will soon be on the case.

God knows at what it will cost to change the signage or what will replace it - but NR have no one to blame but themselves. Idiots.

I thought that all this kind of stuff had to go through the rigmarole of getting planning permission? I'm surprised that they didn't have a tickbox for that obvious clanger.

The pictures initially released by Network Rail showed it bilingually (with the Welsh etched on the glass)
Maybe the etching simply hasn't happened yet...

The etching has happened. I went past yesterday and it was there although the Welsh is not very prominent.

I haven't been inside but from the outside the station is something you would expect to find on a little used commuter line in the Home Counties. An improvement on what was there before but frankly it's still a bit shit.

thankfully, no such problems with Aberystwyth's new signage, taken from CCMB
