Just a brief update -

Fed is now open in the unit next to Cineworld. I went past earlier and it was completely empty....

We love Italy has opened in the Royal Arcade (unit facing St Mary St). It's kitted out nicely. I had a wrap from there which was nice but at £4.45 may be a little overpriced given the wealth of competition. I think it's trying to pitch itself somewhere between a takeaway and a restaurant and it remains to be seen if it works.

A Welsh restaurant called The Pitch has opened in Mill Lane. Nice to see an eaterie reflecting the locality. Can't vouch for the quality as I haven't been. On Welsh eateries I can recommend Seasons which has been open in the Castle Arcade unit facing the castle for the pat few months. The food is nice as is the ambience and it opens in the evening with live music. I hope it succeeds but that unit is cursed....

A skateboard themed coffee shop (I shit you not) is due to open in Duke Street arcade. Not sure I can say anything else about that.

A cafe has applied to open in Royal Arcade (the unit was most lately occupied by Oxfam before they returned to St Mary St). Apparently it will be roasting its own coffee on the premises or something like that.

Potted Pig due to open up in Llandaff (or at least the people behind it are opening up another restaurant).

That unit is somewhat cursed as well. They probably did themselves no favours by missing their opening date. They had quite a lot of publicity around it, and haven't got that this time round (I didn't see anything on walesonline saying it was open for instance).

Hope it does OK - it seems a bit different to the usual buffet. But it needs to make sure pricing is competitive with other places, especially given its slightly peripheral location.

The old Woods brasserie unit down the bay is going to be another Bill's restaurant like the one at Mill Lane.

Bills works very well in the Wyndham Arcade venue, with its inglenooks and big windows. Will be interesting to see how it goes down the Bay.

Staying in the Bay have to say the Wetherspoons down there is very un-Wetherspoons.

In the past few weeks 'Feather & Bone' - formerly 'Pica Pica' on Westgate Street has been shut and a landlord's changing of locks etc. notice displayed in the window. Pica Pica was pretty successful but the ill timed rebranding just as the enormous 'Miller & Carter Steak House' opened seems to have consigned it to history.

Another refit and rename has occurred on Trinity Street too with the former O'Neill's becoming 'The Old market Tavern' a Nicholson's pub, a mainly London based chain.

As some will probably already know, yet another burger restaurant to open is 5 guys.

Application submitted last week for a 5 guys sign to be located at Unit 9 - Brewery Quarter.

A big yes for this one. Great food, friendly service with a big emphasis on Welsh produce and a Welsh atmosphere. A bit like Bill's in terms of the menu but I'd give Pitch the edge. Good to see a localy owned independent outfit in that part of the city.

The 'March of the Coffee Beans' continues - Costa Coffee (know seemingly rebranded as Costa's due to the inability of modern day society to cope with whole two words in a title) have the internal 'coming soon' signs up in the former Peacocks unit at the mid-top end of Queen St. Exciting times indeed.

...and yet another coffee shop in the already over catered Duke Street Arcade.
The Boardroom is a surf/skate themed coffee shop that will be selling top quality coffee, cakes and sandwiches.

Coming soon according to their FB page. https://www.facebook.com/theboardroomcoffee

Speculative article about putting a new restaurant at the top of the Capital building, complete with slightly pathetic illustration of how relatively "tall" Wales's tallest buildings are.
