Not Cardiff but could affect Cardiff.

Penarth seems to be in the middle of a Restaurant boom at the moment?
There is another on the way but can't remember the name! Edit.... The Brew House

Prezzo opened today

Then there's Jamies on the sea front as we call it.

Bar44 which opened a year ago and doing very well

Has Cardiff Bay turned into Hen/Valley Central and people are going where they can park and not face the girls holding the inflatable penises?
Noticed a few times while down in the bay that it becoming very bunched-up around week-ends and no-one in them during the week. Not good for profits.
While the few in Penarth seem to be more constant numbers.

I think there's a restaurant / cafe bar boom in most places at the moment. Recent(ish) openings in Canton, for instance, include Duck Egg Bleu, Arbennig, Chai Central and The Plum Tree. There are a lot of new places opening in the east of city and in the city centre as well. I think it's more a case of social change and the economy picking up a little rather than anything special about Penarth.

As for Mermaid Quay it does seem to have been more or less taken over by chains. That may be partly driving what's happening on other parts of the city.

But Canton doesn't have the ambience of Penarth or the sign as you go in saying "No Riff-raff"

Plum Tree has been only open a couple of months. The Goscombe was previously there. Penarth is a nice part of Cardiff though

Don't judge a book by it's cover or a restaurant by it exterior!

James Sommerin and Bar 44 both get 4/5 on Trip Advisor - the same score as Duck Egg Bleu, Arbennig gets 4.5 while the Pear Tree score 3.5. Both parts of Cardiff ( :D ) have some nice places.
