I'm trying to envisage where they could site it in the Bay that's a straight line to both Penarth and the City Centre. Certainly nowhere near the Quay.

It's a misconception that cable cars can only travel in straight lines. They can have turns of up to 90 degrees at turning stations. Basicaly you have different cable loops between different pylons and the cabs transfer from one loop to the next.

Here's a 90 degree turn on the Hong Kong system.

I just don't see it as being used as much as they hope. I like the sound of the seaplane though.

£100m cable car ride from Cardiff to Penarth, these fantasy threads are getting tiresome!

Space elevator anyone?

Wasn't a sea plane operation proposed a few years ago? I think it was by a Scottish operator. Assume they would want to use the bay as a "runway" and having seen these operations in Canada and Alaska I believe it would cause a lot of disruption to the other users.

Cable Car? Yet another pie in the sky idea to join the various monorails, pods etc. that have been proposed over the years and never happened. Hopefully the proposed Metro, which appears to be more grounded in reality will happen.

Yes, please. That would be really cool - but seeing how much trouble a teathered balloon caused I suspect there could be objections from nimbys! ;)

Not to be pedantic, but that's a 180 degree turn ;)

It's a ninety degree turn... look at the pylon in the background... that's where the route continues!
