Now I shouldn't complain with central square well underway and Number 1 almost finished and looking very good. However... I'm looking out for news on... other Central Square planning apps also Callaghan Square, Herbert Street Apartments, Dumballs Road or what about the 2 student towers proposed for the city centre? will we get 1 both or none? WRU in Westgate Street? and I'm sure more that I've missed
OR should I just be patient

Having said that if anyone 'out there' has news on any of the above -
please feel free to share!!

You can rest assured that WalesOnline will have a glowing report just as soon as the PR teams have put together the next press releases on these developments!

I'm very nervous about the idea of a 24 storey student block. Surely it's not likely to be high quality? The last thing we want is another Ty Pont Hearn.
Once Tyndall St and central square are sorted all that there will need to be done is the bottom of Callaghan Sq and the area between Penarth Rd and Central Station. If a new all purpose 10000+ arena was built the area south of central would seem ideal. It might even inspire someone to complete the Dumballs Rd development down to century wharf. The CIA could then be knocked down and turned into grass. That's one thing our city centre lacks. In spite of there being plenty of sites for development a lack of green space.

My understanding is that things are squarely in the court of CCC. If they grant planning permission, both those student towers will be a go and quickly at that too! They are both serious proposals.

I guess the very centre of the city does - but Bute Park right on the doorstep is pretty gargantuan.

The design of these proposals is significantly better than Ty Pont Haern. Material quality is there too. I'm not quite sure about the colour of the materials though: they are rather dark and could be oppressive on grey cloudy winter days in my view. I'd rather something a bit paler, although probably not render!

I think the materials on the shorter tower by Admiral are really nice, reminiscent of towers under construction in Elephant and castle in London

Well if it's good quality then fine. However is there good evidence that this is the kind of accommodation that students want? Certainly when I applied for university the quality of the Halls was one of the main selling points they offered.
It would to my mind be a mistake to think well it's students so it hardly matters. Saying that as I think I've mentioned before, I know one or two people who had flats in Ty Pont Hearn and they really liked it on the inside.
