That's great news, although I wasn't aware there was spare space in that building.

I actually noticed it the other day on the train to Queen Street - one whole floor completely empty (second floor I believe) and when I was passing at about 9pm the lights were all on, people cleaning windows, hoovering the carpet, measuring up.

I think they've (Eversheds) shoehorned existing staff throughout the building, although I may be mistaken. I quite like the idea that we've got ING, LBG, HSBC, Eversheds and Deloitte all in the same area. If we can get Blake Morgan and L&G in Callaghan Square or Central Square then onwards and upwards, as they say.

A lot of firms are cutting the amount of space per staff member. I think legal firms used to have particularly generous amounts of space, which probably will change as people hot-desk more, and work from client's offices. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if they had shrunk a little - some of their competitors seem to have grown quite a lot in recent years (e.g. New Law, Capital Law etc).

I thought ing had shifted their remaining staff to the office in pentwyn (after barclays) bought them, perhaps that's where the space has come from? I might have imagined it though!

Weren't ING always in No 2? Which is right next door to Eversheds and linked to it, but with the car park entrance in between?

ING used to be on the top floor(s) of the other other end of the building (near the rail line from the Bay). I also believed that they had moved out a couple of years back. IIRC they were originally attracted by a grant in favour of setting up in Southampton.

There seems to be more going on within the life sciences sector than any of the enterprise zone sectors at the moment, or is it just me ?

There seems to be one positive story after another about a company being invested in or relocating to somewhere in the region.

It's also nice that some space is being taken up at Celtic Springs with the first centre going there as well, it's been suffering a little since the recession with loads of great plans going nowhere. I'm not sure if this is going up on one of the empty plots or a conversion of an existing building, I'll have to keep an eye out seeing as I work there.
