Old Cardiff Pictures

PostThu Jan 22, 2015 8:31 pm

I thought I'd revive this thread after coming across these photos on Twitter.

They were posted by Dylan Foster Evans who writes an interesting blog on the history of the Welsh language in Cardiff. They show the Glove and Shears pub on the corner of Castle Street and Kingsway which was one of the city's Welsh-speaking pubs in the early years of the last century.

Dylan's blog is here. https://diferion.wordpress.com/ It's in Welsh but it's worth a look even if your Welsh is a bit limited.

Something of passion of mine - Victorian churches and chapels. They splashed the cash in those days! First off the Congregationalists - Cardiff's largest denomination in the 19th century.

Private Eye "just fancy that" theme....

Jantra on planning system:
That's the state and public sector for you. People need houses yet the planning officers are happy to reject such proposals then drive home to their lovely 4 bedroom house somewhere.
The planning officers would be second against the wall after our MPs and AMs come the revolution.

Some interesting pics of David Morgan over the years, can't believe its 10 years since it closed already.
