Kind of Cardiff Bay, but the Wharf area.

A small development coming on a strip of land adjacent to the water. Will it mean that the large area of land behind County Hall will finally be developed too?

Went into the new cafe in Celestia, cant say i was impressed. the decor was shabby without the chic, the service was terrible, one person sat reading a book with her feet up on a sofa, one with a phone clamped to her head and the only one working looking like she was a rabbit in the head lights. Took 20 minutes for a latte and a tea. Other than that the coffee was ok and the muffin good quality, hopefully they improve otherwise i cant see it lasting, does seem an odd place for a cafe when there are nice location nearby.

Yes - I went into the Natas bakery on the Quay today and got a coffee made to my exact specifications and a sticky cake for just over three quid, plus a cheery welcome and table service. They may not have plush seating but the rest is great.

Yes the Portuguese cafe is really good, good food, good service and good value even if like you say the surroundings aren't plush.

The Lightship is sailing away today to a museum of some sort further up the Severn Estuary. Setting sail as I type. Owners apparently very relieved they didn't have to sell it for scrap.

Makes me feel quite sad its going, though relieved it is being saved. i walk past that ship nearly every day! I think that area could do with some kind of nautical attraction.

The lightship was one of the very early "easy wins" for CBDC. Neither the lightship nor the Tube were intended to last as long as they did but it's still sort of sad to see them both gone.

There certainly needs to be a use found for Roath Basin itself other than as a temporary moaring for the odd navy vessel. One thing that might help would be to restore the lock next to the Norweigian Church to link the docks system to the impounded Bay. At the moment any vessel wanting to travel from one to the other has to use the Queen Alexdandra dock entrance and the locks at Penarth Marina. A direct link could open Roath Basin up for a leisure craft moorings etc

Surely that would be impossible now with that new expensive bridge that carries the Bay Car buses. It doesn't swing, so that's surely that now.

Apart from the Bridge I would think it would have needed a new lock to move vessels between the different levels of the Bay and Dock system. Also would there be contamination issues with the water from the docks going into the Bay? I know the docks are filled via the feeder from the Taff but commercial docks tend to have a lot of pollution.

That said I agree that they need to do something more for that dock. Would a Marina for house boats work? There are some good communities on the Thames made up of House Boats.
