Hopefully it remains the 81 and-a-bit metres and the 24 storeys is incorrect (or is it a way of just referring to the tower above the base?) as then at least we will almost certainly get the tallest building constructed in this city since 1967!! and hopefully it won't hold that title as long either!! Anyway this is all good news and I'm looking forward to seeing work start in earnest perhaps over the next couple of weeks after Cardiff Demolition finish their work on site.

It is incorrect.

Many thanks - that's good to have confirmed! But does that mean those photos/renders are inaccurate also!!

Oh! I hope they realise we're designing 27 floors for them!

It was 24 some time ago, then the floor-to-floor heights were reduced and some more floors squeezed in. The tower will be just about 80m.

25 floors on the latest REVA Planning Drawing dated 12th September?
Is everyone working to the same plans!

http://planning.cardiff.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=_CARDIFF_DCAPR_117038

I would expect that the planning portal has what is actually being built, as I would be surprised if my neighbours building work had two extra floors on the kitchen extension!

They're superseeded. Planning portals don't always update, especially full details of non-material ammendments. The building will actually be a little shorter than the 82m shown due to ammendments. If you reduce the floor-to-floor heights you can usually squeeze in an extra floor without increasing the building height.

They will be the crane base piles going in first. Expect to see the crane in early January.

A yet-to-be-built 24-storey student accommodation scheme in the centre of Cardiff has been bought in a multi-million pound deal.

Bangor-based and London Stock Market listed property development firm Watkin Jones has forward sold the scheme, which will see 472 student accommodation rooms, to an undisclosed institutional investor.

The project value of the scheme, close to the headquarters of FTSE 100 insurance giant Admiral at a site on Bridge Street, is £36m.

With retail units on the ground floor the scheme will also have adjoining 10 and five storey blocks.

It is due for completion in August 2018, ahead of the 2018-19 academic year.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

Clearly, rumours of the death of the student property market have been greatly exaggerated.

I presume this means it's more likely for the Hope Street tower to go ahead soon.
