Crispy Duck on Whitchurch Road is a very good "fine dining" Chinese. There's a decent restaurant area round there with Mint and Mustard and Got Beef as well.

I recommend the Summer Palace in Llandaff - a little on the pricier side but (in my opinion) the best Chinese in Cardiff.

Ironically, given this conversation, the sign for the previous occupiers of the Church Street unit most latterly occupied by Bet Fred has been revealed. It was the China Garden, serving the finest Cantonese cuisine. I have a vague memory of going in there after a session, probably emboldened by the beer to go a culinary journey of discovery rather than trotting off to Caroline Street for my usual rissole and chips.

If Apple Jacks does shut then Church Street will take on a 'broken Britain' vibe. I don't think it will last for long though, the location is too good. The red brick building on the north side needs to be sorted out first and it's current unoccupied state is bringing the rest of the street down.

As there was previous mention of Church Street in this thread...this evening the empty units along the street were being given makeovers by http://citydressing.co.uk/

Oh look, the street is alive and prospering.

'Munchsters'? former unit on Church Street starting a refit this morning.

Any ideas on what's next in trying to make a go of this seemingly doomed unit?

The Grazing Shed is opening in St Mary Street - in one of the units between Morgan and Royal Arcade. I'm not sure if this means their Barrack Lane outlet is closing. I think I read somewhere that the units in Barrack Lane were designed for start ups to grow their business with a view to moving on once established, although given that some of the units have remained empty since they were built this policy may have changed.

Kaspar's, which appears to be some sort of ice cream/cake type outlet has opened just a few doors up in the unit that used to be Crouch the Jewellers many years ago.

There is also a sign up for 'Mrs Potts' in the lovely terracotta brick building that is due to become a backpackers hostel (between Golate and Guidhall Place). Not quite sure what it is although I'm assuming from the name that it will be some sort of cafe....
